Niles Edwin Hanna Sr., 90, was born on January 21, 1929. He passed away on August 14, 2019 following a brief illness and declining health at Spartanburg Medical Center. Niles was born in Spartanburg County to the late Paul Heath and Alpha Lanford Hanna. Mr. Hanna was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Ann Larkin Hanna, their oldest son Jerome Paul Hanna and his only sibling, Dorothy H. Rice. He is survived by his children Patricia Ann Hanna of Whitten Center in Clinton, S.C.; Niles E. Hanna, Jr. and his wife Candy of Enoree;; four grandchildren Joseph Hanna of Greenville, Emily Ann Hanna of the home, Niles E. Hanna III and his wife Laurel of Enoree and Heath Hanna and his wife Meredith of Columbia; five great- grandchildren Savannah Varney, Larken Hanna, Chapman Hanna, McLane Hanna, and Hartlee Hanna. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. We want to recognize with love and affection, a very special person, Sherry Evans. Both Niles Sr. and Ann were able to stay home for the past 8 years of declining health due to her wonderful care. Niles graduated from Woodruff High School. He graduated with a B.A. degree from Wofford College in 1950. After college he served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War, which is how he met his future wife, Ann in Baltimore, Maryland. They married while he was still in active duty. They returned to Enoree, where he helped run the family business, P.H. Hanna & Son general merchandise, and was owner of Niles Hanna Fuel Oil, Enoree Washerette and Kwik food store in Greer. He was a lifelong member of Enoree United Methodist Church. He served as Trustee, Church Council and longtime adult Sunday school teacher. He served as a lay speaker, He also loved singing and sang in the church choir. His love of Wofford was evident in his giving and attendance to many functions and especially football games. Family will receive friends on Sunday, August 18, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at Enoree United Methodist Church with Masonic Rites to follow. Funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. officiated by Rev. Kevin Bishop. He will be laid to rest beside his life-long love, Ann, in the Hanna Family cemetery.
